    As #English speakers, we tend to think that terminologies (especially in #tech) is the same in any other language, because after all it is not easy to have a direct translation over something new. Also, for hashtag purposes, keeping the most known terminology is advisable, like for example: #Fediverse.

    But, it's a false assumption. If one wants to reach out, we need to find how the locals actually call it.

    In Korean, I've seen these:
    * “연합 우주에” / #연합우주에 #연합_우주에
    * “연합우주” / #연합우주

    Roughly translates to English as “Union Universe” or “United Space”.

    Have you seen other translations of “Fediverse”?

      @mojala @Stoori You mean, the platform will translate the hashtags? Sadly, nope. At least I haven't seen a fediverse software that does that.

      I think it is possible to do, as long as the link still points to the untranslated hashtag. But, I think it hasn't been done for two reasons: the usual (1) most are English speakers and multilingual support is usually not part of the objectives; and (2) it might cause confusion since technically a translated hashtag should be a separate hashtag.

      I think one other solution is to introduce #SemanticHashtags, but I think that's going to be a real challenge.
