@feditips How the heck do you type "@" something (like when talking about a Java annotation) without tagging some poor user? Thanks!

I'd suggest putting a space in and adding a note afterwards telling people to remove the space after the @.
Alternatively you can ignore the suggestions and hope that the @ doesn't match an actual user's account in which case it won't resolve into a tag. However, sooner or later you may match, so a space is safer.
