     @eris as someone who used to be a librarian (and actually dealt with audiobooks) the kinds of people who enjoy audiobooks do comment on the quality of the narration. Like I’ve had patrons return an audiobook and tell me that the narrator sucked or one of the VAs sucked. So there is something in what you say.

     @eris the best ones do have a full cast to do them. Sometimes it’s just a narrator reading you a story, but that’s not a problem if they’re a good narrator.

     I remember someone returned a book and they were displeased because it was Benedict Cumberdick or whatever and they said “I’m not fond of this man, but his narration made me even less fond of him”.

     Now that is a burn if I ever heard one.

     @eris also yeah they’re sooo expensive and it got really annoying when customers would lose CDs. Do you would have disc 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 but disc 5 went missing and so now this £30 audiobook we bought is basically useless.

     Of course the publishers have a stick up their arse and would never replace any of the lost CDs because publishers are the work of the devil and wish libraries never existed.

     @eris CDs are old hat tho, the real cool thing are these mp3 player thingies that have the entire book on them. Much cheaper and easier to store.

     (also I’ve seen audiobooks still on tape, but we got rid of them couple years into my service)
