      Not necessarily. If you consider that Apple now claims to have over 2 billion active iOS devices, and every time someone gets a new device or resets their idevice they have to regenerate a certificate for every contact in their address book, you rapidly get to billions per week if you only think that a person gets a new device/wipes their device once every 2 years and has on average 100 people in their contacts. @sheogorath@shivering-isles.com @matthew_d_green@ioc.exchange

      We mostly abandoned the idea of peer-to-peer protocols between weak clients back in the 90s, but end-to-end encryption is much more like P2P with some servers helping out in the middle.
