   1. getting them on kagi not google
   2. getting them on fastmail not google
   3. getting them on bitwarden not google
   4. getting them on nextcloud not google
   5. buying them youtube premium because they watch youtubes literally all day long (can't win 'em all)
   
   only thing self hosted is nextcloud, the others are a massive hassle.

     @raccoon basically neither my parents nor I need very high privacy in search. doing kagi because
     
     1. I don't want google or microsoft to have that info even if it's not sensitive
     2. kagi search works really good
     
     Also the tier I pay for has a GPT AI assistant and I think my dad could use it for hobby stuff.

     @dushman I looked at self-hosting but it was way too heavyweight and I thought the installation process was shitty, the docker config wanted to take over port 80 and 443 completely.

     @dushman there's a native app for smartphones and browser extensions for it, it works pretty good. however, the main reason I got it was you can do organizations and share passwords, basically my parents are old and if they die I need access to their accounts so this lets me do that. unfortunately to share the password with me takes an extra annoying couple of steps and I'm afraid my dad is gonna mess it up so we're gonna have to sit down and do all his accounts one by one.

     @dushman literally just give me an http port on localhost and let me proxy it. their docs even say you can do that but the setup never gave me the option and the complexity of setting it up just kept growing and I decided I didn't want to run the crap so now I pay them for three accounts at 60USD/year each. I do okay money-wise these days so sometimes it's worth paying money to make a problem go away. I trust bitwarden's security model a lot more than the provably bad lastpass.

     @Moon@shitposter.club @dushman@den.raccoon.quest Vaultwarden is pretty simple. It just uses port 80 and sqlite by default. If you care to try selfhosting again. Uses the std bitwarden client apps.
