   If Elon Musk actually cares about free speech on social media so much, why didn’t he just start a fedi instance? He could probably pull in like 10s or 100s of thousands of people.
   
   I think there was some ulterior motive but I’m not sure what it is.

     Have you read the Elon text messages from this case? Lots of relatively straightforward insight into parts of what was going down re Elon
     
     He thought going private, restructuring, and coming back as a Twitter-as-protocol was the way forward afaict. Could then still be powerhouse business, lots of money left on table as is anyway
