Actually it SHOULD be difficult and stressful to drive a car in a city and if it's not then you're not taking your responsibility seriously enough

@mwt @breiter @mbonsma tell them they pointed a gun at you or you smelled meth and then maybe they'll care enough to type that license plate into their computer

@breiter @mbonsma that's terrible! You'd think that they would just look the car up.

I'm in DC too, actually. I just moved here last month. That other thing I mentioned was at Judiciary Square station.

@mwt @mbonsma I had a driver HIT ME in a crosswalk when I had the “white man” crossing light last week in Washington, DC. And the yell at me for being in his way and drove off before I could make my way to the other sidewalk and call 911. Police took an hour to arrive and although I had a photograph of the license plate, claimed they could not track down the driver to do anything.

@mbonsma yeah, I've had drivers scream at me because I walked across a crosswalk protected by a stop sign and I "came out of nowhere".

We have been sold a message that driving should be easy, fun, relaxing, and convenient, that roads are where drivers should feel comfortable, and when someone on the street "comes out of nowhere" it is not your responsibility.

@mwt @breiter @mbonsma it's that sharp sweet chemical smell you get from like burning plastics and stuff.
