   Yeah, the Force Awakens really got the expectations going didn't it? Watching it and remembering how I felt in the theater. Captain Phasma a new and menacing antagonist? Finn, the potential Jedi? Rey, the new and improved Han Solo? YES! I thought.

   AND THEN...none of that happened.

     A second theory, not necessarily mutually exclusive with “they were just making it up as they went” (which in hindsight is obviously the correct one, just as you said, Adam) is that TFA was Han’s film, TLJ was Luke’s film, and Ep 9 was supposed to be Leia’s. Sigh.

     @Adam_Cadmon1 I think it's very funny how the same company that had meticulously planned out the MCU, being like ok in this film we're going to set up something that's not really going to pay off for another seven years, decided to just make some sequels to the most beloved film franchise of all time without even having the directors agree on like, basic plot points

     @julieofthespirits Never thought about it like that, but absolutely. How do you have no gameplan for a trilogy? Of GD Star Wars??
     When I heard the explanation, years later, it was so obvious, I wondered how I'd missed it.
