Agreed on both counts. And both interpretations relevant to Israel post-1967 imo.
@inthehands he was more talking about how winning leads to arrogance and a lack of introspection and sows the seeds for your eventual downfall, while losing can force you to face up to your faults and then overcome them, but this is also very true and I think explains why the police are so bloodthirsty
