Thread about life. The boy left to go back to college so his dog is all mopey and whiney. I feel about the same. It all goes by so fast. We went out to dinner last night and I saw 2 things that disturbed me. The first was a couple with 2 kids. Parents were 30is. One kid a girl about 7. She was quite obese, the other was a boy about 18 months old. They were sitting at the table. The parents each had their heads down and their faces in their phones. Every so often the baby would let....
Does a kid get such an overblown sense of entitlement?
But I had already embarrassed my son with the first table so I stayed out of it.
My son told me that at least one out of 5 kids at college are like that and that he often tells them that their parents don't have to give them a dime and whatever they are giving them is a gift. He says they look at him like he's crazy.
We as a people are sewing seeds of destruction into our children by trying to buy their friendship or something. End
We can't afford the deluxe suites Son vehemently: Dad, I have to live there for FOUR LONG YEARS and it HAS to be nice. Father: it adds $14000, that I dont have, to the total. Im sorry Son: you could do it easily if you wanted to. Mother: we can barely afford it as it is. Son: I already had to accept a car that wasn't what I wanted, and now this.
I wanted to smack the shit out of that ungrateful punk. If that was my kid, I'd tell him he gets nothing. How....
Then I over heard a conversation. A burly father with grey hair and full beard, wearing a grateful dead t-shirt, with tattoos up and down his arms. A plump mother wearing tattered jeans and a hot pink t-shirt that matched her hair dye. And a boy, who was a senior in High School. He wore glasses and had curly hair short on sides and in back with a big poof ball in the front. He had a classic geek look. Father says to the son, sorry but you will have to stay in the traditional dorm....
So I went over and just as she was handing him another marshmallow, that he was trying to slap away, I said "He doesn't want another marshmallow, they're just going to make him fat, what he wants is for his parents to love him as much as they love their phones. If there was a parents hall of shame, I'd you'd surely be in it. Then I left. They did put their phones away but based on the extreme fatness of the girl, these are deeply embedded habbits....
out a loud squeal. Then the girl would play with him for a minute. Then he'd squeel again and the mother would give him a marshmallow, without even lifting her head. Soon the kid was just throwing the marshmallows on the floor.. The squealing was loud but didn't bother me much, but the parents completely ignoring this kid, who obviously just wanted their attention, and passifying him with sugar was disturbing. Finally I couldn't take it any longer....
