Does anyone know how we can come out from this?

Tuta (tutanota@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 20-Oct-2023 21:30:48 JST Tuta If you are in Europe, do file a complaint against #YouTube.
Under EU law they are not allowed to deploy #adblock detection technologies.

What information do you have that confirms YouTube is "storing or accessing" information as a requirement of their Adblock detection? Do you think they can see your Adblock extension? That's ridiculous. The most sensible way of handling this is tracking user sessions server side to see if they downloaded the ad videos. If the ad video didn't get downloaded, you're blocking ads. No violation of this law then. -

Tuta (tutanota@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 20-Oct-2023 21:30:49 JST Tuta One option would be to watch YouTube via Invidious - a pretty good idea to protect your #privacy as well!
This at least works for now, but Google is also trying to kill Invidious:

feld (feld@bikeshed.party)'s status on Friday, 20-Oct-2023 23:08:30 JST feld Why would you use client-side JS for this though? It would be simple to subvert.
They likely do this:
1. User is expected to be served an ad video which lasts 45 seconds
2. User loads their preferred youtube channel up
3. Server marks a timestamp for this initial event
4. Server tracks if the ad has been downloaded AND if user tries to download the target video before the 45 seconds of the ad have elapsed
5. Wow amazing they can tell if you're blocking ads -

Not to say YT couldn't just migrate to your proposed solution (which might make sense in the long run as it'd alert YT to DNS-blocking attempts as well, yes?).
