Congratulations to @alex for being reported on here to the admins (which includes Alex), for speaking up against the genocide of Palestinians. Top notch 👍
I was also reported. This is the first time both of us have been reported to ourselves. As a number of people have said, Palestine is definitely the litmus test of our time, and seeing many people's behavior has clarified so much for me.
@timnitGebru It really is. I thought all the fascists and fascist-apologists remained on the birdsite or scurried off to Bluesky*, but I was horribly wrong.
The most humiliating part, especially for Muslims, is that we must *prove our humanity* to white moderate do-gooders before they even *acknowledge* us as equals in the conversation. They expect us to make stupidly obvious statements like “WE DONT CONDONE HAMAS AND KILLING CIVILIANS!” 🙄
@signalthirteen@Simulacrum@timnitGebru the Onion had a grim but lucid piece about that, called "Gazans criticized for not using last words to condemn Hamas." I would recommend it, but it's a bit graphic and thus intended for western audiences who are disconnected from the violence and need to be jarred awake with vivid imagery. If you're more personally affected in any way you don't really need more than the headline.
@Simulacrum@itsmeholland@timnitGebru I'm just sorry reasonable people are being abused here. There's a lot of regular people just trying to live that are getting caught in the crossfire between a non-representative autocratic state and a non-representative terrorist organization. Civilians need to be safe, everywhere, and I'm so sorry that folks need to prove their humanity before any sympathy or empathy is granted. ❤️
@timnitGebru Can people at least call Israel’s settler-colonialism, ethnic cleansing, and genocidal aspirations what it is without mincing words? The question of Hamas is irrelevant when it’s used to justify literal genocide. Like Mohammed El Kurd says, white western academics would sooner decolonise plastic dolls before they decolonise actual land.
@Simulacrum@timnitGebru what's got me pull my hair out is like, the collective amnesia of it all. Do people think this is all happening in a fucking vacuum? Did they forget about literally the dozens of other times Hamas has attacked Israel & Israel retaliated disproportionately by doing more war crimes & annexing more land & displacing more Palestinians, & everyone said "hey Israel really should treat Palestinians like people & also land back" THOSE TIMES as well??? DECADES this has gone on!!
