Does anyone know why my browser feed for notifications looks like this? I would like to see at least most of the post, not just a single line in the middle of my (big) screen. I don't want advanced (with lots of columns, just more info on the posts. Thanks!

Your server is running Glitch Mastodon, which is an unofficial variant of Mastodon that has more features and options, but its default theme can be a bit odd if you're used to Mastodon's theme.
You can change the theme for your account by doing this:
1. Click on Preferences
2. Click on Flavours (at the left of the screen)
3. Click on Vanilla Mastodon
4. Select the default skin
5. Click "Use This" at the bottom of the screen.This should give you standard Mastodon's theme.

@feditips @EllieK ..sorry have no idea what any of it means and unless someone walks thru step by step ..NO idea what anything means ...only found the ALL column by mistaken move and it seemed to work..been a year and had no idea it could be found even or what it was all about...😬

Are you using Mastodon through the website?

If you're using the multicoloumn version of Mastodon, you can switch to the easier single column mode by doing this:
1. Click on the preferences icon ⚙️
2. Un-tick the box marked "enable advanced web interface"
3. Click the "save changes" button at the top -

Can you see a Preferences link at the bottom of the screen on the right? It has a cog next to it ⚙️
About the lightness, there is an option for a light mode as well.
If you can see Preferences:
1. Click Preferences
2. Click Flavours (at left of screen)
3. Click Vanilla Mastodon (at left of screen)
4. Near bottom of screen from the menu labelled "skin" choose the option "Mastodon Light"
5. Click the "Use this" button below that -

@feditips @EllieK ...This what I see and wish it was light as the dark hurts my eyes and hard to see ...then When I open something am blinded by the flare of white light that is painful before the pin opens.. I do not want many other columns on a tablet screen either and has to remain horizontal NOT vertical anything

I'm afraid I don't have any control over where the publish button is, I'm just a volunteer who helps people use this place!
But, there are other ways of using Mastodon such as apps? They have things laid out a bit differently, perhaps one of them might suit you?
You can search on Google Play for "Tusky", which is a good app. Or you can use the official app, which is just called "Mastodon".
If you don't like them you can just go back to the website, or use both!

KEPP IT SUPER SIMPLE ... MANY OF US are involved in many other different places and have to be able to keep all straight..one name for each thing not 2 or 3 and have to guess or not do at all...thanks -

@feditips ...NO in the ALL nitification column where all the posts from last year had not found ..have been going thru and found this is where all who posted that they follow me and all other posts not seen in the Mention column which was thought to be the only column I could see read and then clear have spent 18 hrs at work there in ALL column and want to finish before shutdown...

Ahh, gotcha.
If you want the buttons from the dark version but with a lighter colour scheme, do this:
1. Click Preferences (at bottom right of screen)
2. Click Flavours (at left of screen)
3. Click GLITCH EDITION (at left of screen)
4. Near bottom of screen from the menu labelled "skin" choose the option "Mastodon Light"
5. Click the "Use this" button below thatThis will give you the extra buttons from the "glitch" version of Mastodon, but with the light colour scheme.

OTHER THAN THE ONES I have saved and 40 followers I have to vet ..all others are gone ...makes my work lighter but do feel guilty as to those missed...🤪 was this supposed to happen???

But it should be back to normal from now on as you're back with the extra button mode.
And you should be able to see the notifications even if they're marked as read?
