Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 13-Oct-2023 06:20:40 JST Sexy Moon It wasn't like, a rule, but criticizing Matrix even just a few months ago just got you eye rolls and dismissals, but now I guess one or two people successfully said the emperor has no clothes and now people accept it. - ✙ dcc :pedomustdie: :phear_slackware: likes this.

I have used matrix for years and it was alright. these days i'd probably rather run xmpp or just use signal if i need free software, or telegram or whatsapp if i don't care. -

matrix i think shit the bed with the graph merging protocol. it makes it real hard to do anything. like if someone is banned its still legal for them to spam because they just insert the events in the graph before they were banned, and there's no way to discern between that and a genuine netsplit. and the docs straight up say this because they have recommendations for how clients should render such an attackSexy Moon likes this. -

Posting Hellbound (postinghellbound@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 13-Oct-2023 06:26:46 JST Posting Hellbound @Moon there is no guarantee the new consensus is better/more accurate than the old one. that said, i have been always of two minds about it: the E2EE and federation aspects were always a big value-add to me, but the UX also always had questionable directions. I wouldn't even permit redactions that cause your client to drop data, for example Sexy Moon likes this. -

Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 13-Oct-2023 06:32:42 JST Sexy Moon @lain I just had constant problems with performance and malfunctioning rooms so my opinion of it is very negative. Also when I wrote 10grans bot I immediately ran into problems, filed an issue on their github and it didn't get fixed for over two years. on-lain ✔ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ likes this. -

Posting Hellbound (postinghellbound@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 13-Oct-2023 06:33:33 JST Posting Hellbound @Moon yeah, i'm with you there. I don't like the thing where people ignore arguments against "their side" and arguments for "the enemy side". There's nothing so great or so terrible to be worth doing that for.

Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 13-Oct-2023 06:34:03 JST Sexy Moon @PostingHellbound I am actually running a Matrix server again just for myself that was written in Rust, and it's maybe 90% working correctly, I can't enter one of my own rooms from the old server for some vague "compatibility" reason. -

on-lain ✔ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ (lain@lain.com)'s status on Friday, 13-Oct-2023 07:15:43 JST on-lain ✔ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ @feld @Moon honestly, i think never having any real alternative (both client and server side) was probably good as it made it possible for them to experiment with changes, nearly as much as a proprietary server would do. but then being wedded to an inefficient 'platonic world of ideas' type protocol makes even less sense.
