no doubt this was a difficult column to write, but Haggai Mattar's ability to hold his own pain and fear as an Israeli, while also holding that of Palestinians, is such a model for where we need to go
"The dread Israelis are feeling right now, myself included, is a sliver of what Palestinians have been feeling on a daily basis under the decades-long military regime in the West Bank, and under the siege and repeated assaults on Gaza."
there are a lot of outraged Jewish people on Mastodon today, but if there is one thing we apparently have to learn here on the fediverse, it's that my persecution doesn't justify my persecution of you.
@HampshireKarin@seachanger no its not. Its entirely different. Israël usually goes into great lenght to avoid civilian death. Hamas attacks all. I am not saying Israël is innocent, it is obviously not. But these hamas killings are next level horrendous. I miss this analysis of Hamas in many communications: they do not want peace, they do not want ywo state, they want death and destruction.
@seachanger He’s spot on. What has happened to the Israeli citizens is horrendous, but not more horrendous than what has been happening to Palestinians on a regular basis for decades. It’s so shocking because it was so unexpected.
