I hate Twitter but, to be honest, Mastodon feels a lot lonelier. I like learning, books, mental models, pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, tools, knots, DIY, EDC, productivity advice, coffee, beer, software development, Tolkien, rucking, soccer, chilly weather, etc. Where are my people at??

The #fediverse can take a while to unlock, as you won't see everyone right away. I self-host my instance (not #mastodon) and people can't see my posts until someone they follow boosts one of my posts. Then their server can see me. At least, that's a simple explanation that is probably mostly correct.Pleroma-tan likes this. -

In the search results, pick "hashtag". Then select the hashtag of interest, and in the middle column near the top is a person with a plus sign on it. Click that, and you've subscribed to all posts with that hashtag!
Also, had you made that post with hashtags in that list, you'd have attracted people following those hashtags.
This lets you follow a certain kind of interest.
