   In case you missed it, you can make your entire posts searchable without using hashtags *IF* you opt into the new full text search system. Here's how to do that:

   However, it's still worth using hashtags because:

   -Many people follow hashtags, using relevant tags in a post reaches them

   -Many people aren't opting into full text search, so you can still find their posts with hashtag searches

   -Hashtags are useful for indicating the topics you actively want to discuss

     Give people a chance, they've only just introduced the feature! :)

     (Also, I'm guessing if there were ever any changes, the developers would just leave it up to server owners to decide about opt-in vs opt-out.)

     only 2% have opted in so i guess opt-out is on the horizon

     I don't think there's a specific hashtag muting system?

     There's a general filter system, but that works just as well on words as well as hashtags?

     - People mute hashtags because they don’t want to see certain content.

     Please respect this decision and use hashtags.

     @feditips I didn't bother with the inner workings. I can mute hashtags in Ivory on my Smartphone and they disappear from the feed I see.
     As far as it concerns me, this might be muting of hashtags or magic. 😅

     Tootfinder isn't an official part of Mastodon, it operates totally independently.

     I guess there's no harm in opting into both if you want to opt into both?

     @feditips So if we were using tootfinder, can we take the "searchable" out of our profile now? Wait a bit for instances to catch up with the new Mastodon version?
