The main reason being that if you're on a regular keyboard you can end up slamming the key down into the back plate of the keyboard a lot which hurts your finger and tendons and stuff over a long period of time whereas mechanical keyboards tend to have a far longer travel than any other keyboard and tend to actually give a large amount of tactile feedback and register the key about halfway through the travel instead of all the way down and also provide ramping resistance as you approach bottoming out to prevent you from getting that impact to your fingers. Also glad to see you got a vertical mouse that was also huge for me.
