    Groups are a really useful feature which let you follow discussions on particular topics. You follow a group to see discussions, and mention the group to post to it. More info:

    If you're annoyed by high traffic groups, you can now combine them with Mastodon's Lists feature to keep them in their own separate mini-timelines (and not in your main timeline):

    Groups federate to all their followers, giving them a much wider reach than hashtags.

      Yeah, that's a good point!

      But hashtags have the drawback that their posts aren't actively pushed to everyone who follows them, as they aren't distributed by an account.

      I guess safest is to include both relevant tags and groups in a post?

      Thanks. I did not know about that sort of groups.
      One drawback I see is that such groups are centralized. If the provider goes dark, members would lose everything. Hashtags are decentralized by nature and thus would be more resilient. Am I missing something?
