     @hicksy2 From our experience the opposite is true. We have used the membrane like this for almost ten years to control/limit the weeding during the growing season. Because the raised beds are above ground level and we plant the garlic roughly 4 inches down then the vernalization works well. We have temperatures well below zero for enough weeks to split the bulbs successfully. However, if we planted garlic in the spring then the outcome could be different 😎

     @DavidPB what is the thinking behind mypex? Garlic needs a cold period to develop properly. I would be concerned that black mypex on the soil will warm the soil over the winter, such that garlic doesn't get the cold it needs.
