> constantly has to be refueled
> has to pay for parking or use subsidized "free parking"
> vehicle tears up streets which constantly have to be repaired

@m @mischievoustomato @animeirl The way I see it the complete destruction of all public space is heavily related to car centric infrastructure which turns a location from an environment into a series of rooms/buildings that are completely disconnected from one another. The world is no longer lingerable but instead everything revolves around getting from point A to point B to complete whatever objective you need to, thus slaughtering the communal aspect of space itself. That isn't the entire reason for the problem, capitalist consoomer culture contributes, but a focus on car infrastructure is a large part

@mischievoustomato @animeirl she's great and a great friend but it always ends the same way on this subject, which is why i wonder why i still engage. i mean im all for public transit, but i fail to understand her side at all, nor has she been able to explain it in a way that makes the slightest bit of sense, and clearly she feels the same way about mine, again in some manner i dont really understand. its whatever, i should go back to screaming at java for vague errors instead

@animeirl yeah, its an absolutely miniscule cost just like sidewalk and basic cleanliness, if that road wasn't there the same amount would be spent on whatever else was there. compare to public transit which does have to be actively maintained at a much higher cost which is subsidized

"the cost is bundled with something else so it doesn't count."

@animeirl if you take out a car loan thats on you and a horrible financial decision. yeah that's consumerist, but i'd argue still less so than public tranist. as for subsidized free parking, uh no not really, in the u.s. it's usually building lots maintained or paid to be maintained by the owners of said buildings, or in/out the u.s. it's just a part of normal town and/or road upkeep/maintanence, i mean its parking it doesn't cost money what the fuck subsidies does that require

smaller towns still have subsidized free parking that you're forced to pay for. the bank owns your car usually.

@animeirl > has to pay for parking or use subsidized "free parking"
cityslicker problem
also you actually own the car unlike public transit which is the real consumerism. or do you intend to walk literally everywhere, between towns and all?
