    In Iran women are currently being mass murdered for refusing to wear an Islamic headscarf. Meanwhile in America they're saying "the headscarf is empowering" and "trans women are women". I'm Iranian, my family is Iranian, and this is why I'm a TERF.

      @alex @Arrian Yes true. But seriously how many generations back irish. I swear not being "funny" genuinely interested. Because it fascinating to me how people in the United States have these really strong connections to their ancestors. Because you are literally a new country.

      Great grandfather was Irish I think. I don't have a strong connection to it. I have a strong connection to being Persian because my mom's family is huge, we all look like we're Persian, and my family has been speaking Persian all around me my whole life.

      @alex @Arrian By the way there is nothing wrong with having strong connections to your ancestors roots. It's just interesting because I have one English parent one Irish parent and I have come in for unbelievable resistance to me being Irish.

      @alex I'm honestly not sure I'm against Iran's headscarf requirements, that's their own cultural value which they use the government to enforce.

      In the west, we're tolerant of far more public degeneracy than we should be, how much can we criticize Iran when we're the example that they fear?

      However, there's a way to handle that kind of situation in a manner that respects due process, the punishment should fit the crime.

      Would you want to wear a hijab? I mean, I've heard the phrase "if you don't like it, leave", and my mom's family did just that.

      @alex 1.
      Although it's kinda irrelevant to my point I'll answer your first question:

      I would not want to wear a hijab, but I'd put up with it. In fact, I'll add a potentially unwanted comment:
      In Iran, men are conscripted into the military, both in times of peace and in times of war. I can easily say that I'd much rather wear a hijab than serve in the Iranian military. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscription_in_Iran)

      2.
      My point is, the Islamic world and the west represent moral extremes that are both bad in their own ways.

      Iran has drawn a moral "line in the sand," saying that they won't tolerate things that violate their cultural values, and enforce a strict dress code in public.

      In the west, we've refused to draw that line anywhere. Women dress in clothing that borders on indecent exposure, and we're supposed to accept it? **School dress codes** are protested as sexist.
      We've constantly allowed our boundaries to be pushed and molded, and this is where it's led to.

      Iran, its people, and its rulers see our example and proudly refuse to follow it, and quite frankly, I can't fault them for that.

        Conscription in Iran
        According to Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran all men from 18 years old or older must go for military service or conscription (Persian: سربازی read "Sarbâzi") in the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The length of conscription is between 18 months to 2 years. History Conscription was first introduced by Reza Shah in June 1925 and approved as law by the National Consultative Assembly. At that time every male person who had reached 21 years old must serve for military for 2 years. However, as the country needed 100,000 men and the qualified population then was 1,000,000, they announced just one man between every 10 men must serve in the military. Conscription time Conscription time is shown in months in each year: Female Conscription Before the 1979 Iranian Revolution, both men and women were conscripted. Post-revolution, the law changed and women were no longer subject to conscription. References
