Proprietary software companies.
As them and their buddies will get kickbacks for implementing such, the Australian government has now decided that each citizen shall either have either of two brands of tracking devices (as iOS and Android are the only OS's that exist) or be unemployed.-

dragestil (dragestil@hostux.social)'s status on Friday, 29-Sep-2023 16:10:42 JST dragestil @floreani the skill passport is also about verification, but skills and qualifications of people to potential employers. I wonder who asked for such things? Because I don't see any benefits at all but on the flipside they pose risks to people's freedom and privacy

sam floreani (floreani@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 29-Sep-2023 16:10:46 JST sam floreani wow, I'm sitting in on a consultation call for Australia's Digital ID bill and it is the single most tedious and monotonous thing I've heard in a long time. for something that stands to impact everyone in Australia, and is right up my alley (privacy, security, identity, etc) they've really outdone themselves with making it so. fucking. boring.
if this is a tactic to discourage engagement with the consultation process, it's working
