   Anyway, it seemed like you wanted to know the answer to "How exactly did Canada get to a place where an actual fucking Waffen SS nazi was cheered on in the House of Commons and literally nobody fucking noticed until someone from outside the political sphere said "umm, that guy is a Nazi."

     This is, sadly, kind of normal for Canadian politics, afaict.

     Again, the Deputy Prime Minister was at pro-Ukraine/anti-Russian invasion rally posing with a UPA banner (nazi irregulars who killed like 100,000 Poles btw) and I swear to god not only did it barely make the news, but anyone who talked about it got chased out of the discourse as a Russian op.

     Setting Freeland aside tho, I meant what I said - it's not so much on PURPOSE, as that they DO NOT GIVE A FUCK.

     The Liberal Party in Canada has no way to profit from aligning themselves with a 100 year old nazi. It's actually quite damaging to them, as you can see.

     But it DOES have a VESTED political interest in aligning itself with Ukrainian nationalists in the diaspora here in Canada. THAT, has political value. Anticommunism in a country FULL of people whose family origin story in this country is "fled Stalin" has VALUE.

     It's not that they love nazis; it's that they love votes, and hate commies, more.

     They get a lot of rhetorical/positional value out of punching left too. By positioning themselves against communism, they get to say "we're not radical like those crazy NDP... we're responsible and safe and boring" and Canadians eat that shit up. We fucking love boring here, and we'll take boring over doing the right thing every single time.
