Lol, I dunno why people sincerely expect Menendez to resign. Please keep in mind, this is the guy who took the LAST bribery charges against him all the fucking way to SCOTUS and...

    won.

If SCOTUS was off the opinion that Citizens United meant bribery more or less didn't exist then, I dunno why that would change now.

This is the machine they built, and these are the kinda men it profits and protects.

"It is a wholly unsurprising turn for Menendez, who beat a corruption investigation only six years ago thanks to a Supreme Court ruling in 2016 that narrowed the federal bribery statute on First Amendment grounds."

As I said - he's been here before.

There’ll Be No Escape for Bob Menendez This Time
        from @fordm
Even the Supreme Court’s lax bribery standards might not let him off.

If I'm Bob? I'm telling Fetterman to blow it out his pie hole and taking my chances in court.

Cause this is a corrupt as fuck country, full of corrupt as fuck courts, where bribery is more or less legal.

He'll win for the same reason he won last time - "you can't start caring just because *I* took a bribe when everyone ELSE is taking bribes in the open."

That was, essentially, the ruling, last time.

@kiwi Right? There were two more too, I think Cruz brought a case that more or less wrecked the Bribery law too, not long after that one.

@AnarchoNinaWrites I can't wait for the definition of bribery to be narrowed so much that it requires verbal, textual, and written agreement that has to be "I am taking a bribe in exchange for this specific action" signed in blood, with the hand-off being in comically large burlap sacks with the money symbol on them.

@AnarchoNinaWrites If the Dems had any balls in 2016 they would have removed him from every committee assignment, every role and responsibility he had. Then there would be almost no reason to bribe him if all he can do is vote on the floor... Alas, here we are, again.
