The only way tipping makes sense is if it's a free market, eg anyone can walk up and start being a server without prior agreement from the kitchen. Is that how this started? Jesters were middle-manning the kitchen and then got dominated?

@alex tipping makes sense to me, what doesn't make sense is if you make tips then the government says you don't have to be paid a minimum wage.

One example I recall was runaway(?) slaves in the north who were allowed to hang around businesses and do this work for tips by the customers. They would not be directly employed by the business at all.

@alex Can't stand tipping, everyone wants a tip now and the expectation keeps rising. (Ex. Hairdressers want tips now when they make far more than minimum wage). I'd rather pay more and have a set price I know I'm going to pay than tip.

@opal @alex @Moon this shouldnt be the fucking case and my friends will like tip accordingly to how they act but like i think thats stupid, like workers should be paid a livable wage and tips should be on top of that for when they do better than average. I just really hate how governments and corporations just hold ppl my age and those who still work these jobs in such contempt yet we do nothing about it. Its kinda absurd

@opal @alex @Moon worse part is im taking classes to get into the tech field cause its marginally better in pay compared to what i make now but not only am i dependant because i make bad spending choices but even i didnt i wouldnt have a whole lot of spending money either. Something has to be done but this dipshit government will not do that and i fear if anything happens itll be too little too late

@Mondobizarrro @alex @Moon i have an irl friend with adhd who recently had to quit meds (with seeming success, so congrats to him) because he had a close call with abusing them
i have had amphetamine exactly once and i do not understand how people grow dependent or addicted to it, even though i deal with a lot of distractions myself. but my friend noticed that he and i have almost-opposite problems when it comes to attention. for me, weed works better
