   People keep telling me to not be technical when we are answering security questionnaires, but they are just *wrong* in their definitions of words and not accepting that these words mean things. "Mobile Device Policy means cellphones" is just stupid

     algebra and legal training, and probably linguistics too, help us deal with "bindings" that do not quite match our understandings, values, concepts. sometimes it helps me, when reading nonsensical definitions, to mentally precede them with "X's nonsensical definition of" ;-D

     @lxo Oh, I get why they are saying it. But that's not what it means *in context*, but telling me you don't like that my definition doesn't change it, ya know.

     Lots of fields have surprising definitions!

     your response suggests you have issues with the policy rather than with the definition, eh? if so, yeah, the trick I suggested won't help.

     @lxo nah - someone is asking about our mobile device policy, and our people think it means Cellphone, but it means "anything that might connect to wifi"

     It's just, security people call Mobile Device something different than everyone else

     @silverwizard I routinely record less than perfect scores on our corporate security awareness training check ups because the writers of the tests don’t know what “might”, “could”, and “never” mean.
