@Reluctant_Weeb dude just use searx.neocities.org, it'll redirect you to a random one, so at least you have a roulette of usable and unusable instances
@lina And redo my settings every single time I search? Every single instance has insane defaults. Half of them have Wikipedia and google as the only engines for general search. And I do need all the engines, about half the time the result I want only shows up on a single, random engine, whether Mojeek or DDG or Brave. This is why I insist upon meta search, using only a single search engine severely limits what I can find. Which is why I also can't just use 4get, you can only use one engine at a time.
@lina So just set cookies on every single instance. And then just hope you get one that works anyways. This is insane. I don't know how people find anything online anymore.
@lina I mean useful things. Like random pdfs that answere every question I was trying to ask and some I didn't even know to ask. I do a lot of serious searching for information, and it's an absolute shitshow trying to find a search engine to get me what I need. For a while searx did everything I needed and more, but recently for whatever reason it's all gone to shit. And ever since they all moved to the new UI I can't even tell when they're working properly or not at a glance. I have to open up a drop down to see the errors I basically always get. 01-24-11Horseradish_Guide_single_without_buttons.pdf
@lina I really want a search engine that just pulls from pdfs and other documents. Nearly every time one pops up in my results it's exactly what I wanted. I have like 30 random pdfs saved that I got primarily through these means at this point. Supposedly the early web was mainly just documents with hyperlinks. I wish it was like that now. Now wikipedia has killed most specialized information repositories, at least in terms of findability, and what does exist is primarily in terrible javascript sites that take minutes to load and generally require an email based account to access. @lina I've gotten kinda obsessive about bookmarking sites at this point, because I know that if I lose the url I'll probably never find them again. It's happened multiple times when I've searched the same prompt on the same search engine and not gotten the one useful result. Here's a site I almost lost in that manner: https://www.cicadamania.com/ I've referenced three times already since I found it a month ago. Marginalia's alright for finding sites like this, but it doesn't have nearly a large enough pool of sites it can bring up.
