Features I'd like to see in #lists in #Mastodon:

    • Hierarchies: For instance, I have a list of software engineers, and within that I would like to have sublists like Haskell/Python/TypeScript, with the superlist aggregating all members of the sublists.

    • Language filters: People who speak English as a second language often write in English about their area of expertise, but in their native language they write about everyday things or politics in their country (I am one of them). When adding members to a list, I would like to be able to choose which languages I want to see in their posts. (Tip: language filters are already available in follow relationships.)

@untitaker I was actually thinking about implementing lists that are also AP agents (e.g., list-name@fedilists.com) as a hobby project. I already bought the domain fedilists.com. 😂

@hongminhee I was thinking of playing with these ideas in a third party app. it should be feasible to generate those lists in a cronjob and upsert the results into regular mastodon lists

@untitaker Essentially, lists feel like they follow their members and automatically boost what their members write (or boost). I think lists can also be filtered (e.g., only include posts with certain hashtags). In other words, they are a sort of curated lists, and people who want to subscribe to those curated posts can follow the lists.

@hongminhee hmm so those lists would send follow activities to the users I follow?

@untitaker Indeed, you're right, I'm still learning ActivityPub, so I'll see if I can make it as unobtrusive as possible. 🤔

@hongminhee I think I would get tired of my notifications if people add me to lists and the list boosts everything I say, not sure. maybe there is a way to boost without sending a notification

      • Marker API: I want to be able to pick up where I left off on my home or office laptop with the list I was viewing on my smartphone during my commute.

@untitaker One thing's for sure, if it's too noisy (and technically it should be), I'll abandon the project.

@hongminhee I think the follow notification is probably necessary. I am also not sure what the best convention here is. it should probably be clear to a user who is following them in the end, even if it is through the "proxy" actor

@untitaker I've never heard of it. It's kind of like a fediverse version of mailing lists, right? Thanks for letting me know!

@JoeP You're right. AFAIK the API is relatively new, so no one seem to implement it yet.

      All good features.

This is the first time I've heard of the markers API. But based on my experience of using multiple apps and the web site, it seems that no one implements it, even for the 'home' and 'notifications' timelines already supported. Or am I missing something?
