After some more time with it, Starfield is a seriously mixed bag. The universe is... empty. There's about 5 billion people missing and nobody says anything about it. Also in the future we have FTL, AI, robots, ray guns and shit, but people have forgotten hydrogen bombs exist.
Content-wise, the asset re-use feels a lot less Skyrimblivion, a lot more Dragon Age 2, which is a huge disappointment.

If Bethesda thinks this engine will be good enough for ES6 to make Skyrim money in 2 or 3 years, they're *fucking dreaming*.

The "romance" and dialog in general is so fucking cringe it's amazing. It's like the writers are 13 year-olds who've never left the basement, and didn't bother to play any Witcher games while they were there.

@Sophistifunk crowds in cities will be cranked up in the remaster i'm sure. or modded in. They are severely limited due to current hardware limitations (and engine insufficiencies/inefficiencies). I have a suspicion that the current release is the one they will use for the VR version likely 2-ish years away. At least they had a better launch than Cyberpunk. But that engine is far beyond what Bethesda has on offer here.

@sirJoho I don't actually mean how many people you see on screen. Everybody in the game *acts* like the galaxy consists of about a million people max. The capital of the oldest established free colony has a mayor who "likes to meet everybody who comes to my city" and shit.

@Sophistifunk I know what you mean. but, there was a huge war in the 2200s and another war only 20 years before Starfield. So I think a lot of people died and there's a lot less than there was. However, I personally wpuld like an explanayion for the diversity in races and accents. I mean how tf are there randos with an indian accent, or an aussie accent? Or a clearly ethnic chinese woman? Races and accents would mostly blend in metro areas and small colonies would be more homogeneous IRL...

@sirJoho the Colony War killed fewer people than Vietnam, it certainly didn't wipe out billions with nothing left to show of their ever existing. And don't get me started on 30 foot piloted mechs with howitzers being banned superweapons everybody is horrified by, while 10 foot all armoured AI robots guard every suspiciously-similar mineshaft across the galaxy and everybody's just "nar, it'll be fine"

@Sophistifunk yeah, there is a sense of design by committee, far more than any other single player bethsoft game. it's also too safe, especially after playing Cyberpunk and experiencing Night City
