Question for those who watched GLOW.
I've never seen this discussed, was Sheila heavily being hinted towards being transmasculine?
Identifying as a wolf to escape identifying as herself - meeting with Bobby the drag queen and their first conversation during the show where he clocks its deeper and not about performance and shifts gears: "how long have you been a wolf?" - "how long have you been Barbara Streisand?" - "Longer than she has, since i was a *pup*". Acting teacher says she cant be seen past the wolf role shes in, she cant be other people if she cant be herself. Suddenly incredibly comfortable playing as Liza Minnelli helped by Bobby when everyone is playing other people, then camping trip burns her wolf outfit after passing out on the hike and seeing a wolf. Then wants to do a two hander performance with Ruth where they're both men.
Ruth fails to return in time for the performance so Sheila stands up in front of everyone and give monologue from Miss Julie which starts with '(I) was brought up like a child of nature by my mother, and taught everything that a boy must know as well; I was to be an example of a woman being as good as a man--I was made to go about it boy's clothes and take care of the horses and harness and saddle and hunt, and all such things; in fact, all over the estate women servants were taught to do men's work, ' - Miss Julie specifically as a character is about failure to comply with duties of womanhood.
