Let bootleg records be sold dammit! Like as long as they are clearly labeled as "unofficial release" or "bootleg" there shouldnt be a problem.
Like lets say i want an unreleased kanye west album for some reason (lets go with either "yandhi" or "donda 2"). Discogs tos is against bootlegs but for now i can buy them for like 30$. who is losing revanue from this other than the buyer? esp if said artist is a billionaire pos who also is batshit insane. Either way like i said as long as its clearly labeled as an unofficial release or bootleg i dont see the problem. I only have a problem when its not labeled as a bootleg and is to like dupe the person buying the item

Tldr i believe that bootlegs records are fine as long as they are clearly labeled as unofficial releases, and as such should be allowed for sale on discogs.

@Mondobizarrro I don't really have a clearly defined take on this, but do you think there are situations where it's better to buy the original and not a bootleg? Personally I do buy originals if I know the artist is just starting out or doesn't have a big audience.

@mazel i mean its better to buy originals off official sites to support smaller artists. But im talking about a very specific issue and this mostly covers artists who are much bigger. Like its less likely to see bootlegs from a smaller artist compared to one everyone knows like the beatles. I mostly use discogs because its a good place to buy music, either that or i go directly to a local record shop.

@mazel either way in some cases some smaller artists like king gizzard and the lizard wizard actively encourage ppl to make bootleg compilations of their music and give out "official bootleg" stickers to those that do. Probably cause they are both chill af and like it gives the artist more exposure
