@apps in my experience, most markdown parsers aren't affected by german de-gendering markers such as entwickler*innen: *this*, for example, would render as markdown, but x*this*x wouldn't (because there's no space/parentheis/period/etc around)

Currently we use a library with a lot of configurations. We will try to investigate if there is a possibility to avoid that issue. -

In Settings > Timeline, you have to turn off "Markdown support". It should be disabled by default in the latest release if it has not been changed. -

daisE 🌈 (daise@sfba.social)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Feb-2024 20:05:53 JST daisE 🌈 @apps @megalodon Meanwhile it's getting worse for German speaking queer folks (like me). People for a couple of months now arguing against the gender-diversity friendly "*" because "mastodon-apps can't handle it". In fact I found the problem up to now only on fedilab where one user just told me "I didn't turn it on and I have no idea where to turn it off in my version 3.28".
Despite political right wing efforts and other comments here, there *is* a clear pro-statement by officials and related organisations (see e.g. http://i42.eu/g3 ) for using the "*" within the gender(ed) nouns like "Nutzer*innen".
As others pointed out already it would be best to have by default the "*" only activated outside of words. (What is with 9*6=42 btw.? ;-)As long as this is not possible, could you please add to your documentation how to turn it off and publish the link to it?
Greetings from the Black Forest and thank you for listening!
