      I would not go that far, but it seems that the families of powerful people get involved in these crimes too frequently (hypothesis.)

      On the other hand, I don't know anything about the Spanish prison system. The US' is a giant industry.

      I cannot find fault with your analysis, though it's not the complete picture (giant money-making machine., for instance.)
      That part is really entrenched #SystemicRacism.
      Now that #SCOTUS has been highjacked, IDK if there can ever be a national healing the next couple of decades in the US.

      American prisons are full of people who committed drug-related offenses.

      These offenses are created by the endless and unwinnable “war on drugs”, which was always conceived as a war on oppressed minorities.

      Once you get a young black man convicted of felony drug possession in a red state, you can disenfranchise him indefinitely. This is, for example, why FL is red.

      Rape and corruption are not what fill prisons, but they should be.

      I know nothing about Spain in this regard, but a criminal lawyer once told me that I should do everything I can to avoid prison in Southern France.

      In Spain, there are no private prisons, and they are said to be rather humane, unless you're charged with anything concerning separatist movements.

      In this case, it is hell.

      The Partido Popular is a conservative party, so anything they touch, is likely to be turned into shit.

      What he meant is that as a foreign national, you often can be extradited to your home country (though the US...better not.)

      I’m not a lawyer, not in America, not in Europe, but I would generally recommend not breaking the law and going to prison.

      Some might disagree with me here, but I’m comfortable stating that this is the received wisdom on the topic.

      French policemen (same as e.g. Greek), especially those from the South, have the reputation of liking to beat detainees up.

      Of course: The darker your skin, the more likely you are to suffer such fate, but a melanin deficit will not necessarily save you, when they're in a bad mood.
