really though in terms of build quality FOR THE PRICE it's really hard to beat Chromebooks. You cannot normally buy a $200 laptop and expect it to last for more than a year or so. Chromebook build quality, at least was when I checked it last, pretty solid.-

Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Sep-2023 08:48:15 JST Sexy Moon @RustyCrab @opphunter88 @gray @MrFuzzland @bot I was given a 180 dollar chromebook for my last job lol it couldn't remotely do what I needed for sysadmin. but I put linux on it and I was surprised to discover it had all the virtualization features and could run qubes os. it ended up being a rock solid linux laptop for years. -

Rusty Crab (rustycrab@clubcyberia.co)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Sep-2023 08:48:16 JST Rusty Crab @bot @opphunter88 @gray @MrFuzzland I'm sure the telemetry in chromeos is part of their business model yes. The parts in Chromebooks are cheap for sure so I don't think they're taking a loss on the hardware or anything. It's just that in the last google had a quality threshold that they liked to maintain that other vendors didn't have. Fediverse Contractor likes this. -

Coyote (coyote@social.singing.dog)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Sep-2023 08:56:41 JST Coyote @bot @RustyCrab @opphunter88 @gray @MrFuzzland Chromebooks are a loss leader to get students “locked in” to Google products. They’re expecting a big payout in 20 years when the kids growing up on ChromeOS get into the logistic positions of a company and start making everything Chrome instead of Windows.
