   I saw a post on here highlighting that Steve Harwell, the recently late lead singer of #SmashMouth, had in 2019 posted his support of trans people. And that just made me sad, because it shows how low the bar is.

   Recognizing the humanity of trans people and supporting their rights is basic human decency.

     So yeah he waved a flag to say that trans people should be treated like people. And he made some music that I enjoy. And then he participated in the minimization of a deadly pandemic that is still ongoing.

     Trans sibs, you deserve better allies. You shouldn't need to canonize every halfway famous person that acknowledges your personhood.

     As is not being on the side of the virus in a global pandemic. Yet in 2020, he performed at a superspreader rally in Sturgis, South Dakota making light of a disease that has gone on to kill one in every 300 Americans.

     Trans folks are more likely to be unhoused, to be poor, to be lacking access to health care. I don't have statistics on the impact of COVID on the trans community, but I don't imagine it's good.
