diceyI think a big percentage of Spanish people have lost ancestors in civil war. The franco regime just picked union lists and people who was listed as working for workers rights and eliminated them after war. Also single mothers was put in internment camps and their child was taken into good families as being a single mom was considered immoral. Rape of women was accepted as a weapon of war by franco regime. They said "they believe in sexual freedom, we are going to teach them what sexual freedom means". People were converted into subjects to dominate in a corrupt catholic hierarchy. The republic wasn't perfect but the dictatorship was though. Even on my Spanish grandmother's side my ancestors was killed due to being listed in political opposition. If a woman was considered rebellious they gave her some sort of laxative shaved her head and made her go trough the village naked. I don't understand that people can have sympathy for the Franco dictatorship personally.
this has nothing with communists but common people being treated as children by a catholic facist father figure with nothing but contempt for them and brainwashing population to become their worst own enemy. Stalin was worse than Franco. But Franco was a sadist with sadistic policies that everyone in Spain who suffered them by ancestors know about. That's about half the population. He was a little little man trying to impose what small men do, authority
I'm not going to discuss if Franco was good for Spain he clearly wasn't. It's known both sides committed atrocities during conflict. But I'm talking about life under Franco which is the horrific period I referred too here
@dicey No different from Stalin then, is what you're saying. A lot of dead communists and a strong man in charge?
Sulla came out on top in the Social War. I don't know what else to say. Reckless and absolute disregard for moral authority will, as a best case scenario, result in being squashed beneath the foot of a tyrant.
Worst case scenario looks more like what the Romans did with the Carthaginians when they didn't find a living human being younger than 17 in the city.
This isn't communists but historians that have documented this by the Franco regimes own documents. Many of these historians are to the right. It's history. I know because my family on my grandma's side suffered greatly
I don’t think most ppl understand the horrific things that happen during conflict, they mostly view it was entertainment in terms of their political ideology. Unless they’re sent into conflict themselves.
