   Attention people making VHS filters!

   Stop putting image warps and lines of static through the image! No one watched tapes like that. We adjusted the tracking. The only way it looked that bad was if you popped the tape open and licked it.

   You want a real distortion? Chromashift everything towards orange and blur it. I watched A LOT of videos like that, because I was cheap, and recorded everything in SLP.

     @jonathankoren Which is why I tend to associate those with horror, multimedia rot being part of it for quite a while.
     Like due to settings like: Hey, we found this camera's video tape in the mud, lets see what it contains.
