    At last some attention from mainstream media about our #climatecrisis

    Embedded in fiscal cost list is this statement “reduce the nation’s production of wheat”

    Of course not just wheat. Crops. Food.

    ie, food shortages.

    Preventable if we reduce emissions, remove carbon, repair our environment.

    Will we?

      @ApaulD Ugh.

      For years, the Australian mainstream media has prattled on about "the cost of climate action".

      And not just the Murdoch press either. The likes of Leigh Sales was a prime culprit right through the Rudd/Gillard years when it came to loaded questions about "the cost of climate action".

      Well, guess what else is expensive? Floods, droughts, hurricanes, cyclones, and bushfires.

      Reconstruction programs after natural disasters are costly.

      Want to talk about the cost of living and inflation? Well, guess what happens to the cost of living and inflation when there's crop shortages. And it takes around 8kg of grain to produce 1kg of beef.

      And this next El Nino cycle is shaping up to be the worst yet.

      @msdropbear42 @ApaulD For LS, a lot of it was just parroting Coalition talking points as a question:

      "HOST: But the legislation does lock in a price that's actually a lot higher than what our competitors in Europe are paying. Would you consider tweaking that to bring in closer to what European companies are paying for their carbon emissions?"

      https://pmtranscripts.pmc.gov.au/release/transcript-19252

      "SALES: But you point out that we have a progressive system. So rich people pay more tax already. You're looking to means test the private health rebate. Why should these people have another burden in terms of bearing the cost of your ETS?"

      https://ministers.treasury.gov.au/ministers/chris-bowen-2009/transcripts/interview-leigh-sales-abc-tv-lateline

      "LEIGH SALES: I suppose you've got, though, the balance between reliability, how much it costs, ease, safety, all of those different factors that you've got to balance?"

      @ajsadauskas @ApaulD I don't particularly remember LS doing that, but given i have the memory of a lobotomised goldfish, you're prolly right. The MSM more broadly however certainly have been guilty of irresponsible "both sidesism" for yonks, apparently favouring the spectacle rather than the objective facts. Then there's the cretinous Great Unwashed of the electorate, who'd rather, across that period [& depending on demographic], keep their noses buried in their farcebucks, twatters, instafools et al, in their share portfolios & investment property returns, in their Big Brothers & Current Affairs, then vote for whoever promised them the biggest tax cuts & the meanest refugee policies. The same idiot irresponsible electorate that voted in Howard 4x, then later madmonk, trumble & morriscum, thus condemning us to shit #NBN, abandoned gambling & resources taxes, & no #Climate policies. Reap, sow. 🤦♀️
