@lritter it might help that they have technically been using the name for about twice as long as the language we are currently speaking has existed. Basically it's name squatting, like naming your company "Meta" or something, and they got legitimacy for it by just getting it in early enough

If you look in a Methodist hymnal their version of the apostle's creed just flat out says "we believe in the holy catholic church" and "catholic" has an asterisk labeled "meaning universal"

all you need is to say your church is "all combined into one" to fit the original latin meaning of "universe", and bam! into the thesaurus you go
