Linux noob question; is there a reason all the tutorials use vi versus using nano? Is it just vi is ubiquotous or some technical reason.

@scottgal It's because 30 years ago when you logged into a fresh GNU/Linux or *BSD system, vi would be all you had, so a whole generation or two of sysadmins and programmers have been raised on vi. -

@scottgal Also because vi worked a bit better over an absolutely awful serial or network connection, or with a shifty terminal or teminal application, so eventually people would learn vi either way.
Once you have been forced to learn vi, you start feeling like you should be making use of that knowledge and all the quirks become features.
