I like to complain about Forbidden West because it's a bit of a mess. But it does one amazing thing other games should learn from.
When fighting enemies, they often get weaker over time as you damage their components. This means, unlike almost all other games, the optional play isn't always to focus on enemies one by one so fewer enemies are attacking you overall. Getting big gun off scary enemy may have priority over finishing another one off.
I think that's very neat!
