As an adult immigrant to the US, I did not expect that the things I would love the most about it are the national and state parks, and municipal services (my city runs an affordable ‘cabin in the woods’ program just outside Yosemite, as well as the largest film photography darkroom on the west coast).

I like to tell my friends from home ‘no matter how remote, the campsite has a bathroom and the bathroom has toilet paper’ (even though I still bring my own portable bidet)
