It is 82° and I’m watching a young woman walk down Fifth Avenue wearing suede winter boots halfway up her calf and a fuzzy Sherpa jacket. I feel like I’m running a fever just looking at her. She is otherwise carefully, stylishly dressed, hair done nicely, nice makeup. She’s with a young man in a nice suit, like they’re perhaps on a date or going to an event. I’m so perplexed.

This makes me think of my mom, who is so perpetually cold that she will wear a light sweatshirt even when temperatures are well into the 80s. More likely that situation you describe is fashion beating out function, but you just never know what it is to be inside somebody else’s body…. Sure makes a person wonder, anyway! -

I sometimes wish there were a noninstrusive, socially acceptable way to just live inside somebody else’s head for a minute. The things we’d learn….

I think I was mostly concerned that she was in some sort of distress, but she didn’t seem like it. She also somehow didn’t seem sweaty. People are sure people!

Oh, I know •exactly• that feeling. We are all trapped inside ourselves.Related: when I was 10-ish, I heard the saying “A man’s paradise is his own good nature.” I asked my mom what that meant. She thought a moment, and said, “It means bad-natured people are trapped in a hell of their own creation.”

Whitney (writerethink@wandering.shop)'s status on Sunday, 20-Aug-2023 06:29:47 JST Whitney @inthehands @amaditalks I have wished for exactly this ever since I was a kid. (My mom says I literally sobbed all day, age 6, when I realized I’d never be able to experience the world through anyone else’s head but mine.)
