I just finished listening to Parable of the Sower, and...jesus christ, you guys. I thought I'd read it before, long ago, but I didn't remember any of it. What an incredible and prescient book.

@cordillera No spoilers: It came out in 1993, but it's set in 2024+, with a young Black woman growing up in a U.S. that is both a horrifying dystopia, and completely recognizable. Octavia Butler saw a lot of threads that were present in the early 90s and before, and projected them into the future, and she was right about how a lot of things would trend.
One of the things I thought about when reading: sometimes hope is not a luxury. It's a dark but hopeful book.
