   Why the reports of the NIF laser facility achieving thermonuclear fusion are basically breathless bullshit with no likely civilian utility: https://dothemath.ucsd.edu/2023/08/fusion-foolery/

   (Reminder that NIF is run by LLNL, a nuclear *weapons* research lab. It's just a work-around for the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, to allow tests of H-bomb plasma dynamics without setting off any bombs.)
