feld (feld@bikeshed.party)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 21:56:46 JST feld If you killed the top 3000 in the Forbes list and took their assets you wouldn't get $7.8T because you'd crash the economy just trying to liquidate it
Also the cost of healthcare in the USA is over $4T a year now so we'd get less than a year of free healthcare from it 💀 -

feld (feld@bikeshed.party)'s status on Saturday, 19-Aug-2023 02:02:43 JST feld The people are the means of production, but unfortunately that's not how our market based economy works. We have to operate within the system that exists, not the fantasy one we wish everyone recognized. -

Lucifer ☄️ (lucifermorningstar@evil.social)'s status on Saturday, 19-Aug-2023 02:07:28 JST Lucifer ☄️ @feld@bikeshed.party It's worth noting that the system that exists is rooted in the notion of self-governance and if the people don't like the deal on offer, the deal is subject to negotiation

We can try to change in the system, like with coops and some other great ideas that are out there. But yeah, not enough people believe in change from the inside and it is very hard to do. But the change is coming - the question will be, what Visions and Ideas will set the rules in the future? This system is not sustainable and it shows this more clearly nearly daily.

Lucifer ☄️ (lucifermorningstar@evil.social)'s status on Sunday, 20-Aug-2023 08:50:52 JST Lucifer ☄️ @feld@bikeshed.party Well if negotiation requires the threat of violence, it's worth acknowledging that the status quo is enforced with that same threat.
If you want change, you have to play the game as it is
And you can't pretend there's a 'right' way that doesn't upset power
That privilege is reserved for status-quo stans that would really rather you rolled over without a fight -

feld (feld@bikeshed.party)'s status on Sunday, 20-Aug-2023 08:50:52 JST feld What was your suggestion for negotiation? A mass strike is not going to happen in the USA. Too many people not in unions and hate unions. Too many people willing to take jobs of workers striking because it would be a raise compared to their current crappy jobs -

Lucifer ☄️ (lucifermorningstar@evil.social)'s status on Sunday, 20-Aug-2023 23:05:59 JST Lucifer ☄️ @feld@bikeshed.party I think my first suggestion would be for people to recognize they have power, but only if they use it.
If you use yours to argue that everything is hopeless, you're right but in a self-fulfilling-prediction way, not in the way you want.
The reason a mass strike is unlikely is that nobody talks to people about the value of unions and Fox News won't shut up about how they steal your money and make America poor.
Go talk to your friends about how when they killed off unions they also killed off the American middle class and the way to get it back is by reestablishing labor's negotiating power and getting money out of politics
