apropos of nothing it's nice to see my fellow computer touchers out here calling themselves "programmers" like i do even though that is Not Done irl (because a "programmer" makes less money than a "software developer")

  @technomancy oh yeah, "developer" is totally interchangeable with "engineer" depending on which one the company that you're applying to work at thinks is superior
  so many nerds want to fight about the actual definitions but they mean ~nothing~

  @pho4cexa apparently I was wrong about Canada but in Europe and elsewhere the meaning is much more strict https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineer#Definition_by_country
