     @Robin_Van_Ee this was prompted by looking at for-sale smartphones that advertise 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of security updates. Obsolescence is baked into the system.

     @annika Most people have. Smartphone sales are down significantly, as hardware upgrades no longer offer tangible benefits.

     As for gaming, I give it a decade until graphics technology reaches that point too. Just a matter of time, really.

     @annika you posted this comment on the internet. It went through a dozen machines and several fiber optic lines, possibly even cellular airspace, to get to anybody capable of reading it.

     Capitalism literally created everything around you. I'm not saying it's the best, I'm just saying to have a sense of proportion.

     @muminitaly Yeah, I called this out in another reply. Beyond just the marketing of new devices, there are active signals like lack of security updates telling people their devices are no good after just a few years.

     @annika part of the reason is that Microsoft, Apple etc stop supplying security patches for older operating systems after a few years,so devices are more open to being hacked. E.g. is the NHS where the IT system was infected with ransomware because they hadn't upgraded #nhs #windows10 #windows11.
