The relay manager in Amethyst gives fine-grained control over each relay. You can choose which relays to use for each part of the app.

@alex are you becoming a proponent of Nostr over fedi?

Gossip also has a pretty granular level of relay control, but I think the audience for this kind of experience is going to be pretty narrow.

@snugglefist @alex even narrower than fedi. Thing is, it's running into one of the same issues fedi is: limited topic scope

@snugglefist I seriously think that the topic scope issue is bigger than any tech topic here. Most people don't care about any of this stuff, and if you try to go off the reservation of the things you listed on Nostr, or the handful of topics I've brought up for fedi in the past, you end up with basically no engagement. It's a desert.
Good luck being a new user on this service as well. I see people come on to my instance from time to time and just post something into the aether. I usually repeat it and try to talk to them because I know what it's like to just get ignored.
There needs to be better onboarding, which means an easier way to find like-minded people.

Yeah, it seems to be mostly enthusiastic devs, even more enthusiastic Bitcoiners zapping each other and a smattering of e-thots trying to figure this zapping thing out.
I think it's going to live or die based on the software people build around the protocol so I'm interested to see where that's going.

@alex Is Amethyst still a resource hog?
